The BRAINetwork Team of Ridhuwan, Fakhru and Gerard spent part of the day celebrating Earth Day with the Belum Rainforest Resort. Gerard had his 10 minutes of fame when he was interviewed by some reporters. BRAINetwork is now host to a “famous” intern all the way from Ireland.
As part of this visit, Ridhuwan, Fakhru and Gerard also visited the surrounding villages of Lake Temengor. They brought footballs as gifts. Hopefully this can be the start of a futsal team in the villages that we visited. It was not all play though, as they were there to carry out a community sustainability assessment [CSA] according to the guidelines of the Global Ecovillage Network. They did manage to visit a few villages and carry out the evaluation. Their visit will give BRAINetwork a better picture of how to carry out the CSA in a more effective and efficient manner. The CSA is an important agenda of the First Mile Project as we do need a baseline assessment of CSA. This will also allow us to measure the effectiveness of any interventions we will be carrying out together with the Orang Asal.
