Meet our Researcher: Dr Ali Kattan
Dr Ali Kattan is a member of the BRAINetwork Research Team. He is currently a lecturer at Ishik Universty in Iraq. He was a former postgraduate student and postdoctoral fellow of Prof Dr Rosni Abdullah of the School of Computer Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Prof Dr Rosni was his supervisor and is also a co-researcher of BRAINetwork.
Although Dr Ali Kattan has qualifications in computer sciences (B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D.), nevertheless, his academic experience is transdisciplinary with strong ties to Engineering, Neuroscience, Education as well as the industry. He utilises ideas from biology to inform his research in Computer Sciences. Dr Ali Kattan specialises in Artificial Intelligence and Parallel Implementation focusing on Optimization, Computational Intelligence and Artificial Neural Networks. This is not limited to theoretical research boundaries, but is extended to actual implementation in the form of usable software to apply the ideas and concepts to an actual problem.
During his post-doctoral period Dr Ali Kattan was working in collaboration with BRAINetwork at Universiti Sains Malaysia to facilitate for value added tools for neuroscientists in the form of decision support systems and expert systems. Advances in neuroimaging technologies and other instrumentations such as EEG, fMRI and Motion Analysis Systems, etc. have enabled Neurologists to conduct a more thorough research that addresses many areas like learning, education, disabilities, brain injuries. Most of these technologies provide a form of digital output data using special software. This data can be further analyzed and studied to provide yet more insights and provide researchers with value added information. This is the focus of Dr Ali’s research in BRAINtwork, and we are proud to have him as our co-researcher.
