Phase 1: Summer School in KB
We welcomed Toyohashi University of Technology for the official opening ceremony of our inaugural USM-TUT Summer School programme with a cultural night last Monday, 7th September 2014. The celebration kicked off the start of a summer school collaboration, which aims to get “Technology Working in Harmony with the Community” in the indigenous villages of the Belum-Temengor Rainforest.
The Japanese students and professors arrived at the airport on the 7th of September and were met by their Malaysian counterparts, before the new acquaintances then went for dinner together at the Holiday Villa Hotel. The next morning Prof Zalina, welcomed our guests with an introduction to the Summer School programme and a brief overview of BRAINetwork. Gerard Dunleavy then gave a presentation on the Community Sustainability Assessment, which the researchers would be using in the coming days to collect data in 10 indigenous villages in the Belum-Temenggor Rainforest.
